Philip G. Altbach, Edward Choi, Mathew R. Allen, and Hans de Wit, eds. (2019). The Global Phenomenon of Family-Owned or Managed Universities. Global Perspectives on Higher Education, volume 44. Rotterdam, Brill Sense Publishers.
The phenomenon of family-owned or managed higher education institutions (FOMHEI) is largely unknown as well as undocumented, yet there are literally hundreds of such universities around the world, both in the nonproft and for-proft sectors. This book is the frst to shed light on these institutions, which are an important subset of private universities—the fastest growing segment of higher education worldwide. FOMHEIs are concentrated in developing and emerging economies, but exist also in Europe and North America: we have identifed FOMHEIs on all continents, ranging from marginal schools to well-regarded,
comprehensive universities and top-level specialized institutions.
Hội nghị về Giáo dục đại học quốc tế – CIHE Conference on International Higher Education
The Center for International Higher Education is organizing its frst biennial Conference on International Higher Education, to be held at Boston College on October 23 and 24, 2020. The conference, marking the 25th anniversary of both the Center and International Higher Education, is intended to bring together senior academics and leaders in international higher education from around the world, alumni and friends/partners of CIHE, as well as other scholars, doctoral students, and postdocs with an interest in the feld. The event will be organized around two tracks—international and comparative higher education, and the internationalization of higher education—and will include invited keynote presenters, panel discussions, and presentations of individual papers. Confrmed keynote speakers include Philip G. Altbach and Hans de Wit (Boston College), Simon Marginson (University of Oxford, UK), Rajani Naidoo (University of Bath, UK) and Ly Tran (Deakin University, Australia). It is our intention to publish some of the presented papers in special issues of Higher Education and Journal of Studies in International Education (there is no guarantee that a paper selected for inclusion in the conference program will be published in either journal, but all selected papers will be considered).
A modest registration fee will be charged to all attendees. The full call for proposals (for those interested in presenting a paper) and the registration link are both available on the CIHE website. Paper submissions are due by May 15, 2020.
